Salinity stress amelioration and morpho-physiological growth stimulation by silicon priming and biochar supplementation in Chenopodium quinoa

نویسندگان

چکیده

The effect of silicon (Si) priming and soil amendment with biochar (BC) was analysed in Chenopodium quinoa under normal salinity stressed conditions. Reduced growth parameters, chlorophyll content, photosynthesis stress were significantly ameliorated by Si BC. Applied BC treatment also enhanced the stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, net photosynthesis, maximal photochemical efficiency. In addition to this, and/or amendments alleviated oxidative damage reducing generation toxic reactive oxygen species including hydrogen peroxide superoxide. Moreover, activities antioxidant enzymes content ascorbate glutathione increased treated plants reflecting efficient alleviation damage. Besides, compatible osmolytes seedlings, thereby contributing improved tolerance maintaining higher leaf water potential use uptake key mineral elements. induced decline nutritional components seeds C. considerably treatments.

Physiological Responses of Quinoa Varieties (Chenopodium quinoa Willd) to Hydropriming and Drought Stress

This research was carried out in a factorial split plot experiment based on a randomized complete block design with four replications in Semnan Agriculture Research Center, Bastam, central Iran, in 2019. Experimental treatments included irrigation as the main factor at three levels of 100, 75 and 50% of water requirement and sub-factors including cultivar at three levels (Titicaca, Q26 and Q29)...

Response of some physiological and morphological properties of quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) by zinc application under drought stress

Iran, is classified as arid and semi-arid regions of the world. Therefore, it is important to identify and planting of drought tolerant plants such as quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.). Zinc is involved in vital processes of the plant therefore; the supply of this element to the plant has a major impact on the quantity and quality of production. This study was conducted as a pot experiment to ...

Effect of seed priming with selenium nanoparticles and plant growth promoting rhizobacteria on improving Quinoa seedling growth under salinity stress

Soil and water salinity are the most important problems that limit crop production, especially in the arid and semi-arid regions. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of growth-promoting bacteria and selenium nanoparticle pretreatment on increasing the tolerance of the Chenopodium quinoa plant to salinity. A factorial experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with...

Benefits of Silicon Nutrition on Growth, Physiological and Phytochemical Attributes of Basil upon Salinity Stress

In the present study, improvement of salt tolerance in basil (as a salt-sensitive plant) was investigated through silicon (Si) nutrition. Basil plants were subjected to silicon (0, 3 mM) and salinity (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mM NaCl) for a duration of one month. Salt stress significantly decreased the biomass of basil. Si supplement (3 mM) resulted in a considerable increase (averagely +135%) i...

Ionic and osmotic relations in quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) plants grown at various salinity levels

Ionic and osmotic relations in quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) were studied by exposing plants to six salinity levels (0-500 mM NaCl range) for 70 d. Salt stress was administered either by pre-mixing of the calculated amount of NaCl with the potting mix before seeds were planted or by the gradual increase of NaCl levels in the irrigation water. For both methods, the optimal plant growth and ...
